In January 2013 I published a special Bitcoin edition of the libertarian magazine BLINK – get this historical document as an NFT!
Blink was a PDF magazine that I edited and published together with Daniel Fallenstein from 2011 to 2013. Already in its first edition in October 2011 we had an article about Bitcoin. This fourth and last edition of Blink was dedicated entirely to our favourite digital currency.
Bitcoin OGs like Erik Voorhees, Rick Falkvinge, Mike Hearn and Jörg Platzer wrote articles for us. We also had an interview with Bitcoin’s former lead developer Gavin Andresen. Some of these people are no longer active in the Bitcoin space, but they were important back in 2013.
Mike Hearn was an early Bitcoin adopter who worked directly with Satoshi Nakamoto in the early days. He left Bitcoin over a dispute on the block size in 2017, together with Gavin Andresen, who was appointed Bitcoin’s lead developer by Satoshi himself.
The Bitcoin Kiez around Jörg Platzer’s legendary Room 77, the first brick-and-mortar store that accepted Bitcoin, does not exist anymore either. So this special edition may be considered a historic document. It was one of the first publications dedicated fully to Bitcoin. With several thousand downloads it was also a quite successful one.
This video was recorded in Bangalore, India, shortly after the launch of the magazine. I browse through its pages and give an overview of the content. I also talk about the Bitfilm Festival, which we organised from 2000 until 2017.
You can purchase the original PDF marked “Ten Year Anniversary Edition” as an NFT. There are only three copies of it, so I can imagine that it will become a valuable collectors’ item in the hyperbitcoinized future.
