Some impressions from our event at the Bitcoin Embassy Bar in Mexico City on Thursday, October 20th, 2022.
The Dia de los Muertos (1st of November) is an important holiday in Mexico. People commemorate their dead family members, but it is not a sad day at all, it is fun! Brass bands play on the cemeteries and the graves are decorated with flowers and the favourite drinks and food of the dead. In the weeks before the “Day of the Dead”, many places in Mexico are decorated with skulls, skeletons and flowers. The Bitcoin Embassy Bar in Mexico City is no exception.
The crypto community in Mexico City is very active. The Bitcoin Embassy Bar in the Bohemian neighbourhood Roma Norte is its main hub. They host meetups and events every week, have a great selection of craft beers, a shop for Bitcoin books and devotionalia and a Bitcoin ATM. Of course you can pay for everything with Bitcoin.
Our special guest was Diego Gutiérrez Zaldívar, who joined us via videochat from Buenos Aires. Diego is the co-founder and CEO of IOV Labs, the company behind Rootstock. He also co-founded the Bitcoin Foundation of Argentina, Bitcoin Ibero-America and the Latin American Bitcoin Conference.
I gave an introductory talk about Rootstock, Lorena Ortiz, the owner of the Embassy, moderated and translated my talk into Spanish. Then Diego answered our questions. It was a great evening, thanks to Lorena and her crew for hosting it and to everyone who showed up!
The Bitcoin Embassy Bar always has a nice atmosphere. It is definitely one of my favourite places in Mexico City. If you are in the Mexican Capital, don’t miss it!
